Breast augmentation with autologous fat in Saarbrücken
To enlarge the breast, there are several methods. CenterPlast recommends the use of autologous fat if it suits the patient’s wishes and conditions.
What is breast augmentation with autologous fat?
In an autologous fat breast augmentation, the surgeon first gently aspirates the fat cells with microcannulas. The cells are then cleaned, filtered and carefully injected. A gentle surgical method ensures that the transplanted autologous fat grows and the contour of the breast is improved. The transplanted autologous fat cells also serve to increase volume. In consultation, the surgeon takes the autologous fat from the following body regions:
- Inner or outer thighs,
- Buttock region or
- The inner side of the knees.
A minimally invasive and modern method, as well as proper aftercare, ensure that the transplanted fat cells heal. The body nevertheless breaks down a certain percentage of the cells naturally. Treatment with autologous fat can achieve an increase in volume of up to 30 to 50 percent. If you are seeking breast augmentation with autologous fat by two cup sizes, you should expect to make two appointments. To achieve the desired result, the treatment can be repeated after three months. Even after breast augmentation with implants, more than one surgery is usually necessary. The limited lifespan of implants and the changes in breast tissue, make it necessary to have another procedure as you age.
Facts about breast augmentation with autologous fat
How is breast augmentation with autologous fat performed?
Step 1: Preparation for breast augmentation with autologous fat
Before each procedure, the surgeon and the anesthesiologist meticulously check all parameters several times according to the checklist. In this way, all involved ensure that it takes place under the best possible circumstances. The greatest possible safety of our patients has absolute priority. Only then can the procedure begin.
Before starting the procedure, the surgeon marks the breasts and the regions of liposuction in a standing position. They are given medications that take away the anxiety and at the same time reduce the sensitivity to pain. If you’re not sound asleep anyway, the most you’ll feel is something happening on the surface of your body.
Step 2: OP procedure
The surgeon injects the marked areas to remove the fat tissue cells (“tumescent technique”). This allows for a gentle operation and prevents the formation of bruises and irregularities of the contour. Fine microcannulas are used to inject the tissue and suck out the fat. The skin incisions of two to three millimeters are hidden in skin folds. After the tissue has been infiltrated and loosened, the surgeon removes the excess autologous fat tissue under vacuum using an aspiration cannula. The fine cannulas are inserted through several openings and guided in a fan shape to achieve an even suction pattern. The suctioned fat tissue cells are cleaned and filtered. The surgeon then inserts the fat tissue cells into the breast. The patient enjoys a larger breast. In addition, asymmetries or irregularities are compensated for by using the body’s own material. In the case of previously sagging breasts, this method of aesthetic plastic surgery can also be expected to have a positive push-up effect.
Before the breast augmentation is completed and while you are still asleep, you will be placed in a sitting position. The surgeon checks whether the shape of the breast in the lying as well as in the sitting position meets the highest requirements. Finally, a bandage and a special support bra are applied.
Step 3: After the procedure – the healing process
The duration of the operation is approximately 90 minutes. The procedure of the own fat method is performed on an outpatient basis and can also be performed without general anesthesia, in twilight sleep or under local anesthesia.
After the procedure you will be monitored in a separate recovery room. After you have fully awakened, you will be allowed to drink something and, depending on how you feel, also take some food. At the end of the day of the operation, follow-up appointments will be arranged. In addition, you will be given instructions for aftercare. You will be given a detailed written report and a telephone number. The surgeon can be reached at this number 24 hours a day.
It is possible to watch your favourite series or even a cinema film from the beginning to the end of the operation with virtual reality glasses. The distraction provided by this entertaining activity has been shown to reduce the perception of pain.
What do you need to keep in mind after breast augmentation with autologous fat?
Please note the following recommendations for the aftercare of an autologous fat treatment.
- Your well-being and the result of the procedure will be checked regularly.
- Use preformed bras without underwire. These prevent excessive pressure on the treated regions.
- Smoking should be avoided as much as possible. The toxins slow down the healing of the wound. The healing of the transplanted fat cells is disturbed. in the context of autologous fat treatment, so that the success of the operation is jeopardized.

What are the risks of breast augmentation with autologous fat?
An operation is of course always associated with certain risks. Liposuction and fat grafting can cause irregularities in the contours. However, the risk associated with this plastic-aesthetic procedure is lower than that associated with classic liposuction, which is used, for example, to remove fat deposits from the thighs or hips. The grafted fatty tissue may die if the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the breast is too low.
General risks (inflammation, thrombosis) and the risk that the fatty tissue cells will not heal are increased in smokers. Fatty tissue that has not healed can liquefy and accumulate in cavities (oil cysts). In rare cases, this fluid must be removed by a puncture with a hollow needle. In the case of larger oil cysts, calcium salt deposition may occur.
The early detection of breast cancer is not affected by the autologous fat treatment. There is no fact-based evidence that autologous fat treatment promotes the development of breast cancer. An obstruction of the bloodstream by the injected fat tissue is theoretically possible (fat embolism). However, there are currently no reports of fat embolisms in the context of breast augmentation with autologous fat in the world literature.
Seven advantages of breast augmentation with autologous fat over breast augmentation with implants?
|Breast augmentation with own fat||Breast augmentation with implants||Breast augmentation with implants and autologous fat (hybrid breast augmentation)|
|1. size||Depending on the body type, up to 280ml per breast can be used. Young healthy non-smoking women retain at least 70 percent.||Implants of 180 to 350ml are usually used for a harmonious enlargement.||The aim is to use as much of the patient’s own fat as possible. The desired size can thus be achieved with a smaller implant of 200 to 250ml.|
|Form 2||The autologous fat can be inserted individually where it is needed. Side differences or irregularities can be corrected specifically.||An implant is inserted approximately in the middle of each half of the chest. The height and width can be varied. The shape is usually ergonomic. Custom-made implants do not exist.||The patient’s own fat is used to accentuate a beautiful and natural décolleté and to compensate for irregularities or a funnel chest.|
|3. scars||No visible scars remain on the breasts.||An augmentation with implants leaves a 4 to 5cm short scar in the crease under the breast or around the nipple.||Like breast augmentation with implants.|
|4. appearance||The enlarged breasts look quite natural.||Size Implants may be palpable or visible at the side, especially in slender patients.||By using the patient’s own fat, smaller less visible implants can be inserted. The implant is less visible or palpable under the autologous fat.|
|5. proper motion||The breast feels natural and soft. The chest naturally follows the movements of the body when standing and lying down.||The breast may appear firmer, especially with larger implants. The shape of the implant changes only slightly when changing from standing to lying.||The larger proportion of autologous tissue makes the breasts look more natural.|
|6. recovery||Patients after autologous fat treatment recover faster than after breast augmentation with implants. At the same time, the patient benefits from liposuction in certain “problem areas”.||Recovery depends on the location of the implant, but takes about five to ten days longer than with autologous fat treatment.||By using the patient’s own fat, the implant can be placed over the pectoral muscle. The recovery is then shorter than in the position under the pectoral muscle.|
|7. long-term nature||The autologous fat treatment has no long-term risks.||An implant carries specific rare long-term risks such as implant rupture, implant displacement, capsular contracture, breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL).||
The following conditions have a positive effect on the risks:
The position over the pectoral muscle
|8th subsequent operation||If you want a moderate enlargement, one appointment is sufficient for breast augmentation with autologous fat.||In the case of breast augmentation with implants, it may become necessary to change or remove the implants in the course of life.||Removing a small implant above the pectoral muscle is more manageable than removing a large implant below the pectoral muscle.|
|9. aftercare||Changes in the breast tissue after breast augmentation with autologous fat can usually be easily distinguished from other diseases by experienced radiologists by means of an ultrasound examination and/or a mammography.||After breast augmentation with implants, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends an MRI exam after three years and every two years thereafter.||

Frequently asked questions
According to the World Health Organization, adults are underweight if their body mass index (BMI) is below 18.5 kg/m2. Many believe that breast augmentation with autologous fat is not possible because of the relatively low body fat percentage. Numerous slim women with small breasts are underweight, and many deal with the issue of breast augmentation when thinking about their own bodies. Back in 2014, a study by Chiu was published proving that breast augmentation can be performed safely and with good results in underweight women. The fat cells can be taken from the abdomen, waist, hips, thighs or calves. On average, over two hundred milliliters were injected per breast. Thus, an increase in breast circumference of almost four centimeters could be achieved. Almost ninety percent of the patients were satisfied or very satisfied with the results. This is also in line with our experience.
Breast augmentation with autologous fat is the most ideal procedure for patients who want a moderate breast augmentation and a natural result. To obtain the adipose tissue cells, 300 to 400 ml of adipose tissue is required. This corresponds to an increase of one cup size. Smaller fat deposits on the abdomen, on the inner or outer thighs, on the buttocks or on the inner side of the knees are sufficient for this purpose.
