Removal of the top layer of skin, the cornea (epidermis) is called deepithelialization. The dermis, which contains a dense vascular network, remains untouched by this technique.
Therefore, it allows the displacement of the largest possible amount of tissue (flapplasty) and is therefore often used in breast or buttock surgery. Since this involves removing the cells capable of dividing from the top layer of skin, this technique is used for skin grafting.
