Frown lines

Pre-treatment of frown lines with a muscle relaxing preparation is useful for at least two reasons. After relaxing the muscles, the frown lines become smaller and more superficial. This means that the remaining wrinkles can be treated more specifically and effectively. With relaxed muscles, the effect of hyaluronic acid injections lasts significantly longer [1]. Therefore, the injection of frown lines should be done a few weeks after the treatment. With an anaesthetic cream or a vibration anaesthetic, the punctiform injections are hardly noticed. Usually 0.4 millilitres of hyaluronic acid is sufficient. Experience in injections and the treatment of complications are important for safe and good results. In the hands of an experienced plastic surgeon, the risk of damage to the skin (necrosis) is 1:200,000 [2].
