Since many practices do not treat patients with public health insurance, I ended up seeing Dr. Stahl on the recommendation of my dermatologist. Which of the surgical techniques is appropriate depends on the size of the sagging skin flap and the amount of fatty tissue. The skin elasticity and the extent of the desired tightening and circumference reduction are also decisive. This means that either the removal of excess skin or liposuction or a combination of both procedures may be indicated. The removal of excess skin from the entire upper arm is accompanied by a scar that is very inconspicuous if the surgeon plans carefully. Skin tightening techniques differ in terms of the length, location and course of the scar. Previous techniques have left visible scars on the back or inside of the upper arm, which were visible from the front or back depending on the viewing angle<sup data-fn=\"30462f1d-de50-4909-bafc-4495a229a977\" class=\"fn\">\n  <a href=\"#30462f1d-de50-4909-bafc-4495a229a977\" id=\"30462f1d-de50-4909-bafc-4495a229a977-link\">6<\/a>\n<\/sup>. In these cases, the scar is limited to the armpit and is not visible even in a bikini<sup data-fn=\"08de6419-c0a6-437c-bf8d-7fcc74402b7e\" class=\"fn\">\n  <a href=\"#08de6419-c0a6-437c-bf8d-7fcc74402b7e\" id=\"08de6419-c0a6-437c-bf8d-7fcc74402b7e-link\">9<\/a>\n<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-heading-5 wp-block-paragraph\">Scar-saving mini-T technique:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"mb-md-6 wp-block-paragraph\">If the excess skin mainly affects the upper arm close to the body, a tightening is possible with a short scar that is not visible in a T-shirt or short-sleeved or sleeveless clothing. For the greatest possible tightening effect, we combine this technique with a skin tightening along the axillary fold. This allows the greatest possible tightening effect to be achieved with a small and barely visible T-shaped scar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-heading-5 wp-block-paragraph\">T-shaped upper arm lift:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"mb-md-6 wp-block-paragraph\">This technique is suitable for removing pronounced excess skin on the upper arm. The technique was first described in 1979<sup data-fn=\"5712d665-3304-4695-be2f-6603c740ada2\" class=\"fn\">\n  <a href=\"#5712d665-3304-4695-be2f-6603c740ada2\" id=\"5712d665-3304-4695-be2f-6603c740ada2-link\">10<\/a>\n<\/sup>. In order to achieve more inconspicuous scars, the technique has been further developed and combined with liposuction<sup data-fn=\"3e3ba20e-fea8-46c2-a3b6-4403cef66061\" class=\"fn\">\n  <a href=\"#3e3ba20e-fea8-46c2-a3b6-4403cef66061\" id=\"3e3ba20e-fea8-46c2-a3b6-4403cef66061-link\">11<\/a>\n<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-heading-5 wp-block-paragraph\">L-shaped upper arm lift:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"mb-md-6 wp-block-paragraph\">This technique involves a combination of an upper arm lift and a lift of the lateral chest below the armpits. The scar runs in an L-shape from the underside of the upper arm to the side of the chest. This technique was first described by the Brazilian plastic surgeon Pitanguy in 1975<sup data-fn=\"bcbab0f4-28c6-4258-a729-65f15568b5ac\" class=\"fn\">\n  <a href=\"#bcbab0f4-28c6-4258-a729-65f15568b5ac\" id=\"bcbab0f4-28c6-4258-a729-65f15568b5ac-link\">12<\/a>\n<\/sup>. Further developments of this technique and the combination with liposuction result in inconspicuous scars<sup data-fn=\"8e290205-cfab-47a2-9bac-99d475ba1e1e\" class=\"fn\">\n  <a href=\"#8e290205-cfab-47a2-9bac-99d475ba1e1e\" id=\"8e290205-cfab-47a2-9bac-99d475ba1e1e-link\">13<\/a>\n<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-heading-5 wp-block-paragraph\">Z-shaped upper arm lift:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The technique describes the interruption of a straight wound course in the armpit with a Z-pattern so as not to impair arm mobility. This technique is only used if excess skin is removed from the upper arm and also from the side of the chest.
