Robert D. Acland (1941-2016) war Chirurg und Wissenschaftler. Acland ist einer der Pioniere in der plastischen und rekonstruktiven Mikrochirurgie. Er entwickelte mikrochirurgische Instrumente (Acland Mikrogefäßklemme) und mikrochirurgische Fäden (10-0 Nylonfäden und Nadeln) die noch heute eingesetzt werden.
Von 1972 bis 1975 absolvierte Acland eine Ausbildung zum Facharzt für Plastische Chirurgie am Canniesburn Hospital in Glasgow, Schottland. Im Canniesburn führte Acland mikrochirurgische Eingriffe durch, die bis zu vierzehn Stunden dauern konnten.
