Arcus marginalis release
The arcus marginalis release is a surgical technique for correcting dark circles under the eyes.
If there is excess skin on the lower eyelid, an incision is made two to three millimeters below the eyelid margin and laterally in the area of the laugh lines. The scars are very inconspicuous.
Alternatively, dark circles without excess skin can be corrected via an approach on the inside of the lower eyelid in the conjunctival fold. In an arcus marginalis release, the sagging connective tissue (orbitomalar ligament) is removed. The fat pads behind the eye ring muscle (suborbicularis oculi fat: SOOF) and the fat pads of the orbit (corpus adiposum orbitae: orbital fat) are redistributed. The procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis and under twilight sleep.
