Neck lift with and without liposuction
A slender neck and a striking transition from the lower jaw to the neck look very attractive. Sagging skin, longitudinal wrinkles or an increase in volume due to increased fat pads or sagging of the submandibular salivary glands can significantly affect the contours of the neck.

What is a neck lift?
The techniques for rejuvenating the neck differ according to the anatomical causes. The altered structures are visualized with magnifying glasses via a short access at the transition between the chin and neck and an access behind the ears in the hairline. Excess fatty tissue is gently removed using fine special cannulas. The superficial cervical muscle and the mandibular salivary glands are returned to their original position if necessary. After the tightened layer of connective tissue gives the neck a slender contour again, the excess skin is removed. The edges of the skin are sutured with fine sutures without tension.
How is a neck lift performed?
- As a rule, surgery is performed under general anesthesia. This involves an inpatient stay of around one day.
- The duration of the operation varies depending on the extent and scope of the procedure and can take 2 to 3 hours.
How can you prepare for a neck lift?
- Any questions about possible treatment complications and alternative forms of treatment should be answered in advance.
- In any case, keep nicotine and alcohol consumption to a minimum!
- It may be necessary to take hormone-containing medication (the pill). temporarily.
- Blood-thinning medication such as AS or Thomapyrin® must be taken at least once a week. 10 days before the neck lift and after consultation with your doctor.
- Vitamin preparations (A / E) & food supplements (omega-3 fatty acids / St. John’s wort preparations …) must be at least 4 weeks before the neck lift.
- Cosmetic surgery such as a neck lift restricts your ability to travel by air. For this reason, do not plan any air travel, either for business or pleasure, in the 6 weeks following neck surgery!
- It is best to have ice cubes or cooling pads ready at home. You can use these to cool the skin after the procedure!
What do you need to consider after a neck lift?
- An upper body elevation of approx. 30 degrees (also when sleeping) for 5 days is beneficial for wound healing and decongestion.
- Drainage tubes behind the ear are usually removed after 24 hours.
- The skin sutures are removed about a week after the operation.
- Showering is possible immediately before the wound check, on the 3rd postoperative day.
- A previously fitted compression mask should be worn 24 hours a day for 1 week and then at night for a further week.
- Lymphatic drainage from the 14th postoperative day supports the reduction of swelling.
- Scar care is essential for the result of inconspicuous scars. This consists of scar massages, intensive sun protection and a silicone pad. Start doing this as early as the 3rd postoperative week.
- The first postoperative clinical check-up is recommended on the 3rd postoperative day. Others are carried out after 1, 2 and 6 weeks. Then again after 6 and 12 months.
- Sports, saunas, swimming, heavy work and sunbathing should be avoided for at least two weeks. 6 weeks should be taboo or at least avoided.
