A beautiful jawline: Jaw & chin correction in Saarbrücken
The so-called jawline is the English term for the chin-jaw contour. The jawline marks the transition from the face to the neck.
Angular lines reinforce masculine character traits. A clearly contoured jawline gives men and women a more youthful appearance. Striking contours emphasize an attractive face. A receding chin (protruding, particularly small chin), a double chin and sagging cheeks can be corrected minimally invasively and effectively, resulting in a beautiful jaw and chin line. You can find out to what extent a fat-away injection is useful for reducing a double chin on the page on fat-away injections. Do you struggle with a weak jawline? Do you not like your profile or semi-profile? Do you want to feel completely comfortable in your own skin?
Opt for a chin and jawline to fall in love with:

Features of the Jawline
The beauty characteristics of the chin-jaw contour are very different for men and women. Each feature is best viewed from a particular angle, usually from the side or front. The following properties characterize the shape of the Jawline from a technical point of view:
- The mandibular angle (angulus mandibulae) is a decisive feature of the chin-jaw contour that can best be assessed in the lateral view. The lower jaw angle results from the intersection angle between the lower jaw body and the lower jaw branch, which lies directly in front of the ear. The jaw branch runs relatively vertically in men and has a gentle angle in women. The lower jaw angle of the chin-jaw area is slightly larger in women than in men and averages 120 degrees.
- The width of the lower jaw in relation to the width of the cheeks is perceived when viewed from the front and intuitively influences the perception of beauty. A width ratio of the lower jaw to the cheek of 75 percent is perceived as particularly attractive in women1.
- The cervico-mandibular angle is the intersection angle of the mandibular plane and the cervical plane. The angle is evaluated in the side view of the entire face. An angle of 90 to 105 degrees is perceived as youthful2.
- The characteristics of the chin, such as the height, the width and the projection or the backward displacement of the chin or the lower jaw have a significant effect on the jawline. The chin protrudes about as far as the lower lip in men, while the lower lip protrudes 1 to 2 millimeters beyond the chin in women3.
- The fullness and position of the subcutaneous fatty tissue as well as the quality of the skin are further characteristics that are examined during a personal consultation at CenterPlast. (CenterPlast also offers an online appointment).
Why do many opt for a Jawline and chin augmentation?
The desire to improve physical appearance is not a new phenomenon of digitalization or the mediatization of society. People have always tried to beautify their appearance, whether with clothing, jewelry, make-up, perfume or piercings. The pursuit of beauty is possibly in our genes, like the courtship dance in birds of paradise. The desire to beautify your appearance and reduce the signs of ageing can be an expression of self-esteem.
The use of make-up and skin and hair care products can increase subjective well-being. Studies show that hyaluronic acid treatment has a positive effect on many aspects of appearance, such as symmetry, the impression of likeability, youthfulness, trustworthiness, attractiveness and self-confidence4.
Weight fluctuations, a hereditary predisposition or age-related changes can alter the signs of youthfulness and beauty of a chin-jaw contour. In addition, the skin can sag with age due to decreasing elasticity and the defined facial contours can be lost. This is also known as the sacking effect. The reasons for a correction of the jawline or chin augmentation of our patients are very individual:
- I want to look as good as possible
- I want to look more attractive
- I find pleasure in being aesthetically appealing
Training the Jawline: Useful or pointless?
The Internet is a great source of information if it is used with a healthy dose of mistrust. The posts on Instagram about chin correction methods represent the opinions of individuals. Influencers usually receive benefits for the anti-ageing recommendations they make. People without medical training use social networks to praise tools for training facial muscles and improving the jawline for a well-shaped chin. What do we make of this?
Unlike the biceps muscle, the facial muscles are not used for power transmission. Frequent blinking or kissing therefore does not lead to muscle growth. Facial muscles are also known as mimic muscles because they are responsible for facial expressions. Facial muscles contain completely different muscle fibers than skeletal muscles5. In contrast to the skeletal muscles, the facial muscles are not surrounded by a layer of loose connective tissue (epimysium).
As the name suggests, the masseter muscle is not responsible for facial expression, but for food intake. It transmits considerable force to the teeth. The masseter muscle can become larger in people who chew a lot of gum or grind their teeth at night. In these cases, the lower jaw appears wider and the shape of the face is disproportionate and angular.
The jawline is essentially determined by the fat pads of the face, the elasticity of the skin or an inherited shape of the jawbone. Hyaluronic acid injections can define a prominent and attractive jawline in certain cases. The effectiveness and safety of the filler treatment and patient satisfaction have been proven in several scientific studies6.
Which filler for jaw augmentation?
Relatively firm hyaluronic gels (high modulus of elasticity) with high viscosity (high modulus of viscosity) are suitable for jaw augmentation without surgery. We use the following products, among others, to contour the chin and jawline:
- Juvéderm® Volux TM from Allergan
- Juvéderm® Voluma TM from Allergan
- Belotero® Volume from Merz
- Teosyal RHA®4 from the company Teoxane
Procedure for a Jawline injection
Preparation
Many patients request an injection of the chin-jaw contour immediately after an examination and consultation. Once a treatment plan has been drawn up, a local anesthetic (topical anesthetic) cream is applied so that you do not feel any pain for the duration of the treatment. After an exposure time of about 30 minutes, the skin is carefully disinfected several times.
The treatment
One to two milliliters of hyaluronic acid are injected in four to five places on each side using a fine needle.
You will only notice a slight feeling of pressure from the injection at the previously defined and marked points. After the injection, a gentle massage and cooling is beneficial to prevent minimal redness and slight swelling. This prevents bruising. You will be given a filler passport in which the product used and the batch number are noted.
After the treatment
Each hyaluronic acid filler differs slightly in its ability to bind water. The volume can therefore still increase very discreetly in the first few days. For this reason, it is advisable to arrange a follow-up appointment one to two weeks after the treatment to check the treatment result. A follow-up injection can be carried out at this time if necessary.
Dr. Santos Stahl will explain to you what to look out for after the injection. In urgent cases, we are of course available for you at any time after treatment.
Jawline correction with hyaluronic acid for women
There are various aspects to consider when injecting hyaluronic acid as part of facial design for women. A V-shaped contour of the facial features looks particularly attractive on women (“V-shape” face shape). The softer contours of the lower jaw and the more delicate skin require less volume and a smooth gel. Depending on the individual findings, women can achieve a beautifully shaped jawline by injecting four points. This emphasizes the expressive female contours of the jaw.
For a well-proportioned, harmonious and youthful result, it often makes sense to include the cheekbones in the treatment plan. Cheek injections accentuate the cheekbones and achieve a slight lifting effect. Chin augmentation sharpens a narrow chin and emphasizes the V-shape of the face.
Jawline correction with hyaluronic acid for men
A clear jawline is a masculine feature and is seen as a sign of physical fitness and athleticism7. Men with an angular and symmetrical jawline and a clear contour of the lower jaw and chin are perceived as very attractive8.
Treatment of the male jawline emphasizes clear lines and usually results in a pronounced chin if desired. For a lasting result, firmer gels are injected near the jawbone. The treatment with around two milliliters of hyaluronic acid per side gives the face strong masculine contours on the jawline and a prominent chin. Jawline correction with hyaluronic acid is fast, effective and safe9.
Autologous fat for Jawline correction
Another non-surgical alternative is autologous fat transplantation. This achieves a permanently rejuvenated and natural appearance. Autologous fat is the closest thing to an ideal tissue filler, as an allergy or rejection of the body’s own cells is ruled out. In addition, an autologous fat treatment visibly optimizes the skin’s appearance and quality.
Autologous fat injections have been proven to improve skin spots, skin wrinkles, skin texture, skin redness and refine skin pores. Since the body’s own cells are transplanted, it must be expected that a certain proportion will be broken down and metabolized. Around 56 and 78 percent of the injected volume is retained in the long term10.
If you wish, a second autologous fat injection can be performed after four to six months. Fat cell transplantation consists of several steps, each of which has been perfected at CenterPlast with the aim of increasing the rate of fat cell growth. A beautiful extraction, preparation and injection ensure that the cells heal promptly in the desired area of the body. The fat cells are usually removed from the abdomen without leaving visible scars.
We inject an average of 5 milliliters of autologous fat (2 to 15 milliliters) into the chin. For a lasting result, an average of 10 milliliters of autologous fat is injected into the lower jaw on each side (5 to 25 milliliters). Over 90 percent of patients are still satisfied with the results after 2 years11.
Thread lifting for the jawline
With increasing age, facial contours change predictably. The skin tends to become thinner and lose elasticity. The connective tissue slackens and fat pads on the cheeks, which are not visible in youth, sink. This can lead to the formation of sagging cheeks that obscure the contours of the lower jaw.
A thread lift can be a useful addition to a hyaluronic acid treatment. Non-degradable stitches such as the original Aptoslift can become visible and palpable over the months and years. CenterPlast therefore only uses self-dissolving (absorbable) sutures for a thread lift (Happy lift™ and Silhouette™).
To a certain extent, the skin above and below the jawline can be tightened without surgery and the cheek fat pads lifted. However, the effect cannot be compared with cosmetic surgery such as a facelift. You can find out more about this operation on the face lift page. If your expectations cannot be met with the goals of a thread lift, the experts at CenterPlast will therefore advise you against this treatment and, if you are interested, will also explain the alternative operations that can achieve your desired result.
Jawline correction with implants
Implants can bring about a significant change at certain points and are therefore generally used to correct congenital malformations or changes in shape following illness or injury. Implants can be inserted in the chin and jaw angle to correct the jaw and chin. Facial implants are most commonly made of porous polyethylene (Medpor®) or silicone. Silicone implants are usually inserted into the chin through a small incision under the chin. In up to 55 percent of cases, slight bone loss (0.5 to 2 millimeters) is observed in the area of the silicone implant on the chin after a few years. Polyethylene implants are usually inserted through the mucous membrane of the mouth at the angle of the jaw.
The average complication rate of implants on the lower jaw is around 4.7 percent, with inflammation/wound healing disorders and protrusion/slippage of the implant being the most common complications12.
The side effects of hyaluronic acid jaw and chin correction are much lower compared to implants. In the rare event that a patient is not satisfied with the effect of the hyaluronic acid, the effect can be reversed by injecting enzymes.
Hyaluronic acid injections are the treatment of choice for chin augmentation of two to three millimeters. Jawline fillers are a safe, effective and permanent alternative to implants for contouring the chin and jaw area.
Jawline and chin augmentation for a round face
The shape of the face can be recognized from a great distance, for example on the other side of the street. It can decide whether a curious second glance is taken. An oval face shape is perceived as particularly attractive13.
Other commonly used terms such as heart shape or diamond shape actually describe the same characteristics: high cheeks, a gentle jawline and a narrow chin. A friendly, attractive and feminine face shape is characterized by a narrower lower jaw and prominent cheekbones. Chubby cheeks, a pronounced chewing muscle or a double chin fade the female facial contours and give the impression of a round face.
Jawline contouring of a round face shape requires an individual, holistic approach. Surgical removal of the buccal fat pad, also known as “bichectomy” or “buccal fat pad resection”, is used to reduce the size of chubby cheeks.
Injecting the masseter muscle with a muscle-relaxing preparation narrows the lower jaw. A double chin is corrected with a fat removal injection. Injecting fillers is an effective and safe treatment to enhance attractive female facial features, such as high cheekbones, a shapely chin and full lips.
The “De Maio Filler Technique”
The Brazilian plastic surgeon Dr. Maurício de Maio has described a concept for injecting hyaluronic acid into the face. De Maio has become known through numerous worldwide lectures on hyaluronic acid injections in collaboration with Allergan.
Maurício De Maio developed a holistic treatment approach instead of injecting only in isolated areas of the face. The treatment recommendations described by de Maio are called MD-CodesTM. In each case, an injection technique, an injection depth, a hyaluronic acid product and a filler quantity are assigned to the treated facial regions and the treatment sequence is described14.
Like Dr. de Maio, Dr. Santos Stahl completed her training as a plastic surgeon in Brazil and has met Maurício de Maio at numerous congresses. Fri. Dr. Santos Stahl also follows a holistic treatment method. The treatment goals and the treatment plan are explained personally and in detail during the consultation.
CenterPlast only uses high-quality hyaluronic acid preparations. For optimal and harmonious overall results, not only individual wrinkles are injected, but also interacting areas are rejuvenated and beautiful facial features are emphasized. Treatment success and satisfaction can also be significantly increased through the use of other techniques (muscle relaxants, treatment with the body’s own blood and microneedling as well as aesthetic procedures). For this reason, you are in the best hands with Dr. Santos Stahl, specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery and specialist in facial surgery.
How long does the Jawline correction last?
On average, the results can be expected to last at least 18 to 24 months15. Depending on the hyaluronic acid and the volume injected, it can therefore take up to two years after the first treatment before a small amount needs to be injected again to maintain the desired youthful appearance. Weight fluctuations, cigarette smoking or frequent sunbathing can accelerate the sagging of your face. Depending on the individual findings, the treatment with hyaluronic acid can be repeated or extended earlier for a fresh appearance.
What are the risks of a Jawline injection?
97 percent of patients are very satisfied with the results of chin-jaw contour injections16. Depending on the skin type, there may be slight redness and swelling at the puncture site, which usually subsides after two hours. In rare cases, a bruise may occur, which disappears on its own after two to three days. The risk of the formation of palpable nodules is around one percent17.
The irregularities usually disappear through massage. In exceptional cases, injections can be carried out for quick and effective resolution. The risk of inflammation is less than one percent. However, always make sure that the doctor treating you is an expert in plastic surgery. Only a surgical specialist in the aesthetic-plastic field has the appropriate training to carry out the treatment professionally and safely. In an emergency, he has the anatomical knowledge to take appropriate medical measures so that the final result is not jeopardized and no further complications arise.
In principle, injury to a vessel and the obstruction of a bloodstream can never be ruled out. In the hands of an experienced facial surgeon and therefore a specialist in aesthetic medicine, such incidents are extremely unlikely and treatable.
