What is a bullhorn lift? Find out more about the small procedure with a big impact
Skin elasticity decreases with increasing age. Muscles and bones are broken down. As a result, the upper lip red becomes thinner and the upper lip white becomes longer. The bullhorn lift is a lip lift technique (technically known as cheiloplasty). This tightens the skin below the nose and shortens the distance between the nose and mouth. As the curved shape of the removed skin is reminiscent of the shape of bull horns, the lip correction technique is colloquially known as a bullhorn lift. The youthful proportion of the mouth area is restored. The upper lip red becomes fuller and emphasizes the sensual radiance in a natural way. The scar is very inconspicuous in the skin fold below the nose. The results of the lip lift are permanent.

How does a lip lift operation work?
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. The operation takes about thirty minutes. An overnight stay in the clinic is not necessary. For your greater comfort, an anesthetic cream is applied thirty to sixty minutes beforehand. The very thin needle of the anesthetic syringe is hardly noticeable afterwards. The excess skin and the incision are marked with a fine marker. To prevent the formation of bruising, the injected anesthetic contains adrenaline. The effect of the anesthetic lasts for about two hours. The optical magnification of loupe glasses enables particularly gentle surgery. The wound is closed with the finest stitches and treated with staple plasters. You will receive a detailed report after the procedure. It contains recommendations on what to do and a telephone number where you can reach your surgeon at any time. Before you leave the clinic, examination appointments will be made to monitor the healing process.
What can you expect after an operation?
Avoid bending over and cool the lip after the anesthetic has worn off. This will prevent swelling in the first three days after treatment. If possible, sleep with your upper body slightly elevated during the first night. Avoid physical exertion. Avoid nicotine and alcohol for at least five days. During the first three days, we recommend that you avoid excessive mouth movements (e.g. laughing, chewing, talking). The stitches are usually removed after 8 days. Direct sunlight can have a detrimental effect on scar healing. Massaging the scar from the second week onwards ensures a fine, inconspicuous scar.

Section 11 of the Therapeutic Products Advertising Act restricts the pictorial representation of cosmetic surgery in Germany. The state of health and lifestyle habits influence the healing process and the risks after an operation. A treatment plan and a treatment result are not transferable to every person. Before and after pictures are helpful during the consultation and information session to show the possibilities of the respective treatment procedure. In scientific publications, images are provided with a legend and published in the context of a scientific article. The before and after photos are identical in terms of size, position and lighting. Information about the patient’s age, state of health and surgical technique enables the specialist to precisely classify the results of the operation. By banning before-and-after images in public, the legislator wants to prevent images from being shown without background information.
