Belly button correction / correction of the belly button in Saarbrücken
In many cultures and world views, the navel is the center of the body (“navel” or “umbilicus” in English). The navel contributes significantly to the aesthetics of the abdomen. For many, the belly button is even an erogenous zone. Fashion trends such as hipster pants and crop tops as well as belly button piercings draw all eyes to the belly button. Every belly button is as unique as a fingerprint. Belly buttons differ according to their position, shape, size and depth. Common navel shapes are oval, round or T-shaped. A fold of skin at the upper edge of the navel is perceived as very attractive.

What is a belly button operation?
The aim of a navel correction is a harmonious, natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing navel. The technical term for this is umbilicoplasty. The shape and size are corrected so that the scars are barely visible inside the navel.
Which correction options for the belly button
do we offer?
Piercing hole removal
Several reasons can lead to piercing holes not growing over. Over the months, a canal forms around the jewelry, which is lined with scar tissue or skin cells. The hole can widen due to heavy jewelry or a lot of movement. The hole then remains, even if the navel piercing is no longer worn. Disturbing and conspicuous holes can be replaced by an inconspicuous scar.
Remove piercing scars
Navel piercings often heal slowly. The longer the inflammatory stimulus persists, the more scar tissue forms. Bulging dark scars can develop. With a certain predisposition, proliferating scars can also develop. An extensive scar can be replaced by a fine and cleverly concealed scar.
Correction of a torn navel piercing
Navel jewelry can get caught in clothing. With chains or pendants, there is a high risk of the piercing being pulled if you make a careless movement. Piercings that are pierced superficially in particular can tear out quickly. To restore a beautiful navel, it is not enough to stitch up the torn tissue. For a beautiful shape and barely visible scar, it is necessary to loosen and delicately move the abdominal skin and apply a fine skin suture.
Reduction of the belly button
After pregnancy or weight loss, the stretched tissue often does not return to its original shape. To correct this, excess skin is removed and the surrounding abdominal wall is tightened.
Retracting the navel
A bulging belly button can conceal a flesh navel or an umbilical hernia. Palpation and an ultrasound examination can determine whether abdominal wall weakness is present. Tissue can protrude from the abdominal cavity at the weak point. During the correction, the muscle layers are sutured together and the belly button is turned inwards. Larger fractures are reinforced with a mesh.

Preparation
Every operation is thoroughly prepared at CenterPlast. During the consultation, the specialist will discuss all the details with you. To ensure the highest possible level of safety, all safety measures are checked several times before the operation. The surgeon will check again on the day of the operation to make sure that all your questions have been answered.
In smokers, wound healing is delayed and the cosmetic results can be significantly worse. Therefore, if possible, refrain from smoking for two weeks before to four weeks after the planned procedure. In the event of an unforeseen acute illness, it is for your safety to postpone the procedure. You should be free of infection at the time of the operation, otherwise you expose yourself to incalculable and possibly consequential risks. Blood-thinning medication, vitamins and dietary supplements should be avoided two weeks before the operation in consultation with your doctor. Shower or bathe as you wish in the morning before the operation. You can help to reduce the risk of infection by cleaning your navel with a disinfectant soap (e.g. Octenisan® Wash Lotion from Schülke, HiBiScrub® Plus from Mölnlycke or Prontoderm® Shower Gel from B.Braun). It is best to use a cotton bud for this.
The OP
The lying surface in the operating theater is equipped with a special multi-layer foam core mattress with memory effect. Due to your body weight and your body temperature, you will sink a little. This ensures excellent positioning comfort and optimum patient safety. Light background music contributes to your relaxation. You can watch movies or simply your favorite series with virtual reality glasses. This is not only entertaining, but the distraction has been proven to reduce your sensitivity to pain.
Dr. Santos Stahl or PD Dr. Stahl will transfer the previously discussed surgical plan to the abdominal skin using a special pen. The surgeon injects the tissue with a tumescent solution. The tumescent technique prevents the development of bruising and enables gentle surgery. The surgeon wears special magnifying glasses for precise work. After the removal of excess tissue or scar tissue, the abdominal skin is carefully loosened while protecting the blood vessels. The tissue is offset with fine sutures and the indentation of the navel is reshaped. Finally, the wound is treated with a plaster.
After the procedure
- Observe the agreed appointments for checking the wound and your well-being.
- With a shower plaster you can shower the day after the operation. Make sure that no moisture remains on the wound. Before putting on the clothing, it is important that the skin is completely dry.
- Adherence to the rules of hygiene greatly ensures the outcome of the operation. Hands should be washed at regular intervals with liquid soap (for a period of 30 seconds). Also avoid contact with animals.
- Bending down, lifting heavy loads, swimming, saunas and other sporting activities should be avoided for 3 weeks. Prolonged rest may be recommended if swelling persists.
- The following preparations have proven effective for treating mild pain in the first two to three days: Arnica (homeopathic, over-the-counter) twice five globules a day, Paracetamol 500mg tablets (over-the-counter) if required, a maximum of four times a day.
Frequently asked questions
One to three minutes after birth, the vessels in the umbilical cord constrict. After birth, an immune reaction occurs at the junction of the umbilical cord and the abdominal skin. The stump of the umbilical cord falls off within five to fifteen days. The ring-shaped passageway of the umbilical cord through the abdominal wall contracts. Wound healing leaves a unique natural scar, the umbilical cord, also known as the umbilical annulus.
Belly buttons are barely a few millimeters deep at a young age. In adolescence, belly buttons have an elongated shape. The diameter of the navel varies from fifteen to twenty millimeters. Body weight, pregnancies and abdominal wall hernias can influence the appearance. With increasing age or body weight, the shape of the belly button becomes transversely oval and the depth of the belly button increases. The navel can protrude after pregnancy.
Differences in the size of the umbilical cord and the healing process after the umbilical cord is cut can lead to a large belly button. A wide, flat navel is sometimes also referred to as an amniotic navel. A long bulging navel stump is also known as a flesh navel. A flesh navel should not be confused with an umbilical hernia. If the umbilical cord’s opening does not close tightly, an umbilical hernia can occur. Tissue from the abdominal cavity can get caught in it.
