Eyebrows
Beautifully curved eyebrows emphasize natural beauty. The beauty ideals of eyebrows are influenced by culture and current fashion trends. There are different opinions as to where the highest point of a beautiful eyebrow should be. According to Westmore, the highest point of the eyebrow lies in a vertical line at the outer limit of the iris (outer limbus). According to Lamas, the highest point of the eyebrow is located along a line from the outer border of the iris to the lateral nostril. According to Anastasia, the highest point of the eyebrow should lie along a line from the center of the tip of the nose to the center of the pupil.
Ideally, the highest point of the eyebrow should be in relation to the highest point of the eyelid crease and the highest point of the upper lash line (Vaca EE, et al. 2019, Aesthetic Surgery Journal). The height of the outer eyelid is in proportion to the height of the mobile eyelid. At the inner boundary of the iris (inner limbus) the ratio is 1.5 to 1. At the outer transition zone (outer limbus) it is 3 to 1. The eyebrows are usually at the level of the upper bone edge of the eye socket in men and a few millimeters above it in women.
In women, the eyebrows should be about 2.5 centimeters above the pupils (McKinney P, 1991, Aesthetic Plast Surg). The distance from the upper eyelid crease to the lower edge of the eyebrow is on average fifteen millimeters (Connell BF, 1989, Aesthetic Plast Surg). The creation of the skin and connective tissue can cause the eyebrows to droop (brow ptosis). There are numerous techniques, such as the forehead lift, eyebrow lift, browplasty and brow pexy, with which the shape and position of the eyebrows can be corrected. Removing excess skin generally results in more significant and permanent changes (Cilento BW, Johnson CJ, 2009, Arch Facial Plast Surg). The combination of non-surgical and surgical techniques, including muscle relaxants and needling, result in the most natural and effective eyebrow enhancement.
