How do facial wrinkles develop?

The skin loses its elasticity with increasing age and after intensive exposure to the sun or UV radiation. The connective tissue supporting the skin becomes slack and the skin fat shrinks. Individual predispositions or lifestyle habits such as smoking can also lead to a reduction in the elasticity of the skin. The following types of wrinkles are distinguished with regard to possible causes and treatments.

Actinic wrinkles are caused by years of UV radiation from the sun or solarium, which damage the skin and support or even accelerate the natural formation of wrinkles. These wrinkles are particularly visible on the face, around the mouth and on the neck. Sun wrinkles, for example, can be effectively treated with needling or peeling.

In the case of orthostatic or gravity wrinkles, muscles and skin fat sag due to a decrease in tissue firmness. This type of wrinkle includes, for example, the nasolabial fold between the corner of the mouth and the nose. Depending on how pronounced the wrinkles are, they can be padded with tissue fillers or autologous fat and/or corrected with a facelift. A brow lift may be necessary to correct sagging eyebrows.

Dynamic or mimic wrinkles are the result of active muscle movement. Fine muscles involved in certain facial expressions stretch or contract the skin. Over time, furrows appear in certain areas of the face. These wrinkles are often named after the facial expressions that characterize them, e.g. frown lines, frown lines (forehead wrinkles) or laugh lines (crow’s feet). Group A muscle relaxant injections are suitable for reducing these wrinkles.

Signs of ageing are so familiar to us that it is surprisingly difficult to consciously name these aspects. Ageing affects the entire body and tissue at different rates. The point at which the peak of development is reached and ageing begins varies from person to person. Lifestyle (sun exposure, smoking and alcohol) and hereditary factors have an effect on ageing. The effects become visible relatively early on the face. The changes begin in the late teens and only become visible in the mid-twenties. As a rule, however, our appearance only changes in midlife to an extent that prompts some people to seek surgical help. It is therefore less important to quantify the “ageing face” in years than to recognize the typical changes that occur.

What is a wrinkle treatment with autologous fat?

Certain proportions, harmony and symmetry play a decisive role in the perception of beauty. For this reason, we first ask you about your desired changes and analyze your individual anatomical conditions.

Transplanted autologous cells are used to increase volume and improve contours. Deep frown lines or forehead wrinkles can be smoothed out and dark circles under the eyes can be corrected. Balanced contours of the cheeks, lips, temples and chin can be restored. The fat cells can be suctioned from the abdomen, buttocks, thighs or knees.

How is autologous fat treatment carried out?

Procedure for wrinkle treatment with autologous fat

Preparation

  • Have all your questions about possible complications and alternative treatments answered in advance.
  • Nicotine and alcohol consumption should always be kept to a minimum!
  • It may be necessary to take hormone-containing medication (the pill). to take a temporary break.
  • Are you taking blood-thinning medication, such as ASA or Thomapyrin®? At least. 10 days before wrinkle treatment with autologous fat, these should be discontinued (in consultation with your doctor).
  • Discontinue vitamin preparations (A, E) and dietary supplements (omega-3 fatty acids, St. John’s wort preparations, etc.) before the operation: This should be at least 4 weeks before the wrinkle treatment with autologous fat.
  • Do not plan any air travel: The ability to travel by air is restricted by surgery. For this reason, do not plan any business or private air travel for the 6 weeks following the operation!
  • Have cooling pads ready in the house to cool the skin for the time after the operation!

The OP

  • The procedure takes about 60 minutes, depending on the extent of the procedure.
  • The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia and twilight sleep.

After the procedure

  • Driving should be strictly avoided on the day of the operation due to the accompanying medication.
  • Plenty of rest and cooling help to keep the swelling to a minimum on the first few days.
  • Keeping the upper body elevated at around 30 degrees (even when sleeping) for 5 days is beneficial for reducing swelling and wound healing.
  • Alcohol consumption increases the tendency to swell, smoking delays healing.
  • Showering is possible on the 3rd postoperative day (immediately before the wounds are checked).
  • Skin sutures are only removed from the donor sites after 10 days.
  • Bending down, lifting heavy loads and sporting activities should be avoided for 2 weeks.
  • Postoperative clinical checks should be scheduled on the 3rd postoperative day and after 1, 2, 6 weeks and 6 months.
  • Sports, sauna visits, swimming, heavy work and sunbathing should be avoided for at least two weeks. 4 weeks should be avoided.
