Baroudi seams – definition & use
Baroudi sutures are sutures to fix the Scarpa fascia to the straight abdominal muscle fascia, which are performed as part of an abdominoplasty.
Professor Ricardo Baroudi (1932-2018) was a Brazilian plastic surgeon. They are referred to as “progressive tension sutures”.
The sutures reduce the displacement of the loosened soft tissue mantle over the abdominal wall after a tightening operation. This reduces the risk of wound fluid accumulation (seroma) and prevents the formation of wide scars.
