Obesity / morbid obesity

The Latin term obesity means severe or pathological overweight. It is also translated as “obesity” or “obesity”.

In Germany, around a quarter of the adult population is obese. Over half of the adult population is overweight. The World Health Organization differentiates between weight classes on the basis of body mass index (BMI). The higher the weight category, the higher the health risks (increased blood sugar, increased blood pressure, increased blood lipids, vascular diseases, respiratory diseases and overall poor health).

According to this, overweight corresponds to a BMI of 25.0 to 29.9. Obesity is also divided into three classes: Grade I BMI: 30.0 to 34.9; Grade II BMI: 35.0 to 39.9; Grade III BMI over 40.0. Obesity increases the risks of anesthesia and surgery, especially the risks of thrombosis and embolism, wound healing disorders and inflammation.
