Get rid of angular arms: Tips for toned upper arms

Taut skin is one of the beauty ideals of many people. However, natural skin ageing or weight fluctuations can lead to sagging skin, including on the upper arms. The tissue loses its elasticity and hangs down limply.
So-called angular arms are often not only perceived as unaesthetic, but can also severely affect the self-confidence of those affected. If targeted training and dietary adjustments do not help, an upper arm lift can be an effective solution.
What are angled arms and how do they develop?
When the skin on the inside of the upper arms hangs down as a sagging flap, we speak of angular arms. There are various causes of angular arms. Firstly, the production of elastin and collagen decreases over time. The skin becomes flabbier and can begin to sag.
Major weight changes can also lead to sagging skin. Our skin can still compensate for fluctuations in weight up to a certain extent. However, rapid and large weight changes put particular strain on the connective tissue. This leads to excess skin that can no longer be restored.
Women are particularly affected by angular arms as they have comparatively weaker connective tissue and less muscle mass. If the muscles on the upper arms are weak, this increases the risk of sagging skin. Genetic predisposition can also play a role. People with a high body fat percentage and lower muscle mass are more likely to be affected by angular arms.
Getting rid of angled arms – what can you do yourself?
Below we give you tips for firmer upper arms.
Exercises against angled arms
You can build muscle and define your upper arms with targeted strength training. You should pay particular attention to your triceps. You can also burn off excess fat with endurance training.
Recommended exercises for toned upper arms include classic push-ups, for example. Tricep dips can also be effective. To do this, support yourself with your hands on the edge of a chair and slowly lower your bottom towards the floor.
Then push your body up again. We recommend 3 rounds with 10-15 repetitions each.
You will need dumbbells for the tricep press. Stand upright and hold a dumbbell in one hand. Now stretch your arm upwards and bend your elbow so that the dumbbell is lowered behind your head. Do a few repetitions and then switch arms.
Nutrition tips for firm skin
You can support your skin health with the right diet. Pay particular attention to a sufficient intake of proteins and reduce the amount of carbohydrates as much as possible. Dairy products, fish and white meat are recommended.
Eat enough fruit and vegetables. Vitamin C and E in particular can promote collagen production and contribute to elastic skin. Also drink at least 2 liters of water a day. Avoid highly processed foods, sugar and saturated fats, which can promote skin ageing.
Healthy lifestyle
Always make sure you lead a healthy lifestyle. In addition to a balanced diet and regular exercise, this also includes getting enough sleep and avoiding alcohol and nicotine. You should also avoid frequent and intensive sunbathing and apply a sunscreen with a high sun protection factor.
The right skin care for firmer skin
Choose skin care products that are tailored to your skin type. Stimulating creams and emulsions that boost collagen and elastin production can also be helpful. However, the application of such body care alone will not be able to eliminate the problem of angular arms and should only be seen as a supportive measure.
Treatment options for tightening the upper arms
Every body is different and targeted training and lifestyle adjustments do not always help to get rid of the love handles. In this case, plastic and aesthetic surgery offers effective treatment methods.
As part of an upper arm lift, excess and sagging skin tissue can be removed. Gentle and targeted liposuction can also be used to contour the upper arms.
Methods and procedure of the upper arm lift
There are various methods of upper arm lift surgery. Which surgical technique is the best choice depends on the extent of the sagging skin and the amount of fatty tissue. A distinction is made between
- I technology:
- With good skin elasticity and little excess skin. The scar remains hidden in the armpit.
- Mini-T technology:
- For excess skin on the inside of the upper arm. The scar runs along the axillary fold.
- T-shaped upper arm lift:
- For pronounced excess skin on the entire upper arm. The scar runs along the inside of the upper arm.
- L-shaped upper arm lift:
- With additional tightening of the lateral chest. Used for severe excess skin.
The upper arm lift takes about 2 hours and is performed on an outpatient basis under twilight sedation. Excess and sagging tissue is removed and the remaining skin is tightened. Care is taken to ensure that the result is as scar-free as possible. The procedure is preceded by a detailed consultation in which the optimal procedure is determined depending on the initial situation and goal.
The right aftercare for an optimal result
The healing time is about 2 weeks. You will be given comprehensive information on the correct aftercare before the operation. Avoid strenuous physical activity for the first 4 weeks and wear a compression garment depending on the degree of swelling. You can support scar healing with massages from the third week onwards.
Possible risks of an upper arm lift
By choosing an experienced surgeon, possible complications can be minimized right from the start. At CenterPlast you will find a team with a high level of expertise, so you are in safe hands.
